'Amatsu had unexpected benefits for me': Cynthia's Story

Cynthia is a freelance qualitative consultant who came to see me in 2015 with recurring neck and shoulder pain that was making it hard for her to do daily tasks. She wanted to be free of this pain so that she could get on with her life. But she didn't expect Amatsu to change other things too.

This is her story:

“When I first came to see Lorna, I had this horrible recurrent shoulder and neck pain. I was feeling very deflated. I hadn't had a proper accident or an injury - I think it just came on over time from years of carrying bags on that side. I was struggling with sleeping and couldn't get comfortable at night and had a hard time with everyday stuff such as carrying a bag and shopping. I saw a chiropractor for a while and it did help but a certain stiffness always remained.

Amatsu made such a difference.

If I compare it to chiropractic, which is so rough and tumble and quite mechanical, Amatsu is the opposite - and yet it works. I felt 60-70% better in my neck and shoulder even between the first and second session - as though everything had been oiled! This was what I came to see Lorna about originally, but there was also another effect of Amatsu that I found quite amazing.

In 2007, I had a yellow fever jab for a work trip and soon after (literally a few hours later), I started getting strong dizzy spells. To begin with these were really quite strong and disruptive. I basically would get strong vertigo, go deaf in my right ear, sound would become distorted and I would vomit every time I had them. I had a lot of tests to find out what was causing this and the doctors couldn't come up with a clear diagnosis. In the end, they told me that I had something between Meniere's disease and labyrinthitis, a condition that affected the blood flow to my ears. At the time, I had a load of acupuncture sessions - which helped - and these episodes eventually lessened in severity over the years, but they never really went away. I learnt, with time, to watch out for triggers and things I could do for myself such as making sure I ate regularly and not having too much coffee or cheese, but they still happened.

After I had had about eight sessions of Amatsu with Lorna, I suddenly realised that it had been a whole month since I'd had a vertigo spell - in the 9 years since they first started, that had never happened! I'd never gone this long without one. They normally happened at least once a week, sometimes twice. If I had been sitting for a while and then got up quickly, that could be a trigger, but sometimes they would come out of the blue. The vertigo/dizzy feeling would last for about 10-15 minutes (sometimes longer) and in that time, I could not move or it would get much worse. For example, it happened once in the supermarket and all I could do was just stand still and hope that no-one would talk to me. Once I also had an episode on a plane just as we landed and the crew had to wait for me to get better before we could disembark..
After those initial eight sessions, I couldn't get to a session with Lorna for about two months due to work, and then I had quite a strong vertigo spell so I knew I needed to go back. I was so amazed that something as gentle as Amatsu had done something to balance me enough to stop these spells. Also, my right ear lobe had always been slightly sore for these past years and I realised that this pain had also gone away.

I had had Amatsu before on a yoga holiday and I thought it was pretty magic! It's so hard to explain how Amatsu works, but it feels wonderful, as though your body stretches beyond itself. It seems to work at a deeper level than the physical body somehow.

I don't think there is any person I wouldn't recommend Amatsu to. I think everyone could benefit from having at least a monthly session, especially people with busy or stressful lives not just those with physical problems. Amatsu 'bridges' a connecting back to yourself and it feels very nurturing, it is so gentle.
I think if the body could speak, it would say 'Thank you' for Amatsu. It feels as though there is a gradual (re)awakening of the body which feels very right. Working with Lorna has been such a welcoming, safe and easy experience. I highly recommend her.”

Amatsu surprises me too..

Cynthia is not the only person who has come to see me about one issue, and has found other things resolving as a result of Amatsu. People often report an improvement in their digestion or say that niggles that they hadn't even mentioned to me have gone away.

I cannot profess to completely understand the amazing mystery of the human body, but I do know that the Amatsu approach of viewing the body as a whole and treating it as such makes a lot of difference. I am aiming to create space and balance in the entire body no matter where you are hurting, so it doesn't take too much of a leap of understanding to see how that might have positive benefits everywhere.
